Ephesians reworks Colossians into a more general, liturgical meditation on the church as Christ's cosmic body uniting Jew and Gentile, its polished, accumulating sentences and expansive theology among the main reasons most critical scholars reject Pauline authorship. Its own place of composition is unknown; the traditional Ephesus association rests on an address, "in Ephesus," that is textually uncertain.
