Every one is generated from something real and named - a sculpture in a museum, a corroded blade, a published excavation plan - and every one is an interpretation of that evidence, not a record of it. Where a plate omits something famous, the caption says why: Babylon has no Hanging Gardens here because excavation has produced no secure trace of them.

Because the city was largely abandoned, its plan survives as one of the most complete early Islamic urban sites known, and the reconstruction rests on that excavated ground plan.
