Lost; known through the Suda and later scholia, which credit Hypatia with a commentary on Diophantus's Arithmetica alongside other mathematical and astronomical works, none of which survive independently under her name. Her murder by a Christian mob in AD 415 became an enduring symbol of Alexandria's religious and political violence, but philosophical, medical, and scientific teaching continued in the city for centuries afterward.
