Eighteen psalms attributed pseudonymously to Solomon respond to the trauma of Roman conquest by condemning the corrupt Hasmonean priesthood that invited it and hoping for a righteous Davidic king to expel foreign rule, an early witness to a specifically royal-messianic expectation.
