Vassal Treaty of Ashur-nirari V with Mati'ilu of Arpad
A treaty binding a Syrian vassal king to Assyria argues its case almost entirely through threatened consequence, an extended sequence of ritual curses invoking mutilated animals and burned cities as the literal fate awaiting Mati'ilu if he breaks his oath.
